You don't "work in technology"
I've noticed a tendency of many people to say they "work in the technology industry". It's like saying "I'm human". It doesn't make sense.
Technology is fascinating but it has been for some reason hijacked by some that seem to be trying to make us believe tech is only something that runs on a computer.
We conjecture, we have a theory of how something works, we criticize it and improve it and then after a while we find out we are wrong when reality contradicts that theory, we correct our errors and we instantly generate knowledge. That’s how science works.
Science is not a corpus of unquestionable truths. Science should consequently not be called “The Science” as if it were something unmovable. Science is a process of infinite error correction. And I highlight infinite, because we can never be entirely sure of being right.
Technology is actually the embodiment of knowledge in artifacts, processes, etc… that improves human capabilities.
From clothing to a fishing rod, to Bitcoin to AI, everything humans do is trying to improve our lives with things with embedded knowledge.
Consequently, when you say “I work in technology”, what do you mean?
Saying that is almost equivalent to saying “I am a human” because if there is something which is truly unique and descriptive of what humans are is our ability to create explanatory knowledge and to embed it as technology, in order to improve our lives instead of depending exclusively on our genetic knowledge as it is the case with literally every other species in the animal kingdom.
